Verona puts its trust in LED with OCEM Airfield Technology

 

The many benefits of LED lighting convinced the SAVE group and Verona Airport to make the switch

 

Valerio Catullo Airport in Verona-Villafranca has chosen its long-time partner OCEM Airfield Technology to replace one of its halogen airport lighting systems with a complete supply of LED lights.

OCEM will refurbish the Tango taxiway and its respective connectors with LED and will integrate the PLC remove control and monitoring system for Verona Airport, which serves one of Italy’s key regions.

The airport is centrally located in an area that includes the provinces of Brescia, Mantua, Rovigo, Vicenza, Trento, Bolzano and Verona. With about 4 million inhabitants, the region represents about 12 percent of the national GDP.

Verona Airport was previously classified as a military airport, but since September 2008 it has been used as a civil airport. Last year, it served as a transit platform for about 3.1 million passengers. The airport is owned by the state and since 2005 has been managed by the SAVE group, which aims to be an innovative sector leader committed to quality, responsibility and ethics.

OCEM has supplied lighting signals to the Verona Airport since its military days. The relationship is marked by strong trust that developed over a series of successful collaborations, culminating with this challenging new project.

The benefits of LED technology and the quality of OCEM’s products are so well known that this evolution was a natural next step for Verona. LED offers energy savings, longer life for single products, and less maintenance, since the lamps don’t need to be replaced every quarter. As a result, overall costs are lower, making LED the obvious choice for Verona.

The project is expected to last about year, so look for the new Tango taxiway next spring: safer, brighter and more eco-friendly.
