Milan-Malpensa Airport, recently rated Europe’s best mid-sized airport, increasingly embraces green operations when it comes to energy and environmental efficiency.
In a natural next step, SEA Milano, the association that oversees Milan-area airports, has expanded its environmental efforts by installing OCEM Airfield’s energy-efficient LED runway and traffic route lighting to replace its older, outdated halogen lighting.
The LED lights use less energy and are more reliable and longer-lasting, providing savings in energy, maintenance and replacement costs. The move is part of an overall effort to reduce Milan-Malpensa’s environmental impact; the airport recently switched to electric vehicles for its intra-airport ground transport.
Last summer, Milan-Malpensa was rated by the Airports Council International as the best European airport in the category of 10-25 million passengers annually for 2015. The award was based in part on the excellent quality of its infrastructure, which now includes investments in OCEM’s cutting-edge LED technology.
OCEM also recently completed a lighting installation at Rome-Fiumicino. Together the installations at Italy’s two largest airports provide a case study that demonstrates that OCEM’s Made in Italy lighting solutions are an effective and affordable option for any airport looking to transition to LED.
