HERMES – Smart lighting for safer and more efficient airports

2025

HERMES is an innovative project aimed at developing an intelligent platform for airport lighting management, enhancing operational safety and control efficiency.
Developed by Energy Technology S.r.l. – OCEM Airfield, in collaboration with CIRI ICT – University of Bologna and STOORM5 S.r.l., the project introduced an Individual Lamp Control and Monitoring System (ILCMS) based on Powerline Communication, allowing real-time monitoring and management of airfield lights while simplifying infrastructure and improving reliability.

The project delivered and validated functional prototypes integrated into the INFINITE supervision platform, paving the way for a new generation of ILCMS systems ready for industrialization and compliant with international standards.
Supported by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Programme ERDF 2021–2027, HERMES strengthens OCEM Airfield’s role as an international leader in advanced technological solutions for smart airport infrastructure management.

Funded by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Programme ERDF 2021–2027, HERMES promotes digital innovation in the airport sector through an intelligent platform for real-time lighting control and diagnostics, supporting safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
