LED technology remains the most cost-efficient and high-performing airfield ground lighting (AGL) solution on the market.
Since its debut in 2002, LED technology has proven to be the most cost-efficient and high-performing airfield ground lighting (AGL) solution on the market. It consumes less power; provides higher color performance, reliability and product life; and results in lower carbon emissions. With the current energy challenges, LED Airfield Ground Lighting still has enormous potential to contribute to important savings in some cases even running up to hundreds of thousands of euros, dollars or whatever currency we use. However, LED’s full potential has not yet been realized. Many airports still hesitate to incorporate LED technology into their airfields, and the technology remains tethered to standards and requirements that were developed for halogen technology. OCEM Airfield undertook a few years ago a study to measure the benefits of LED and demonstrate how airports worldwide can use changes in current and voltage to overcome these regulatory hurdles and unlock LED’s full potential.
