A Constant Current Regulator, or CCR, is the power unit that feeds many airport lighting series circuits. Its role is to maintain a stable output current so that connected airfield lights operate at the required intensity.
Instead of controlling brightness by simple voltage switching, AGL systems typically control intensity by selecting current steps. This allows operators to adapt light output to daytime, nighttime and low-visibility conditions.
Modern CCRs can also support remote control, diagnostics, fault detection and integration with airport lighting control systems. This makes the CCR one of the key components in the electrical architecture of an airfield lighting system.
