The Italian company is completing its second major installation at Tbilisi International Airport since 2007
OCEM Airfield Technology is completing an extensive runway refurbishment and upgrade project at Tbilisi International Airport, securing its place as the foremost airfield lighting and control provider in the country of Georgia.
This summer OCEM is supplying lighting signals for a runway refurbishment and extension, and upgrading Tbilisi’s instrument landing system from CAT I to CAT II to allow landings in conditions of reduced visibility.
It’s not the first time OCEM has been active in Georgia. The Italian company was Tbilisi’s main airfield lighting provider in 2007 during a major modernization effort, supplying most of the airport’s lighting signals and its airfield regulator.
After the project, air travel through Tbilisi doubled between 2009 and 2014, reaching 1.4 million passengers that year. The airport served 1.8 million passengers in 2015 and for the past two years has been rated among the Top 10 airports in Eastern Europe for passenger satisfaction.
The latest round of installations promises to increase air traffic through Tbilisi even more. OCEM is supplying, delivering and installing runway guard lights, LED stop bar signals and guidance signs at holding positions, and is upgrading the Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System.
The Italian company has also installed new lighting signals on all four taxiways and will finish installing new lights for the runway extension and upgrade later this summer.
OCEM looks forward to building on this success in Georgia with future projects in the Caucus region.
